Farewell from Maree (7th May 10)
The time has come for me to leave Logical Developments. 'Cheerio' to all our clients, with a special big thanks to our long-standing regulars, who have helped make this a wonderful nine years. I wish you all the best. It has been an interesting time, full of new people, and new things to learn. Perhaps most importantly, it has been a very happy time, and I’m indebted to Paul and Caroline (managing partners) for making this so. My emails will be forwarded on, and one of the team will get back to you as soon as possible. Cheers, Maree.New product release (1st Dec 09)
For 15 years Logical Developments has been successfully developing projects on an infrastructure engine called Omnis. Last week, DLA (the Australian Omnis distributors) held a gathering for Australian Omnis developers in Sydney. Our head programmer, Paul Mulroney, took the opportunity to fly over for the occasion. The first day saw the launch of the latest Omnis product (Studio 5) followed by a two-day workshop. It was an ideal opportunity for mingling and exchanging ideas with old colleagues, and meeting some new faces. One Studio 5 feature of particular interest was the Windows mobile development. In the last few months we have been approached by a number of employment agencies and individuals. Unfortunately at this stage we have no positions available. If this status changes we will post a notice here on our News. In the meantime please feel free to check out our Employment page.Paul participating in The Worlds Greatest Shave (16th Mar 09)
Rising to a mate’s challenge to enter the Worlds Greatest Shave has resulted in Paul raising over $1400.00 for the Leukaemia Foundation. His original goal was $500.00 for just loosing his hair, but a good response from sponsors meant saying goodbye to the beard and moustache too. Saturday morning saw a group of friends gathered for the occasion with entertainment and sausage sizzle. There was no shortage of shearing jokes and puns, as laugh by laugh we stepped through a general trim, a Mohawk, then a checkerboard pattern, to being as bare (but alas, not as beautiful) as a baby’s bottom. If you are disappointed you missed out, you can see photos, either Facebook or Google Picasa
Thanks to everyone for your support. Paul can accept further donations to the end of this week. Double celebrations (29th Jan 09)
Last Saturday over 100 family and friends gathered to celebrate Paul and Caroline’s 20th wedding anniversary. Paul rendered a beautiful and touching tribute to his high-school sweetheart, who was also celebrating her 40th birthday. They expressed appreciation for friendships, with guests representing main areas of their life – high school, university, music, neighbours and church groups. All agreed what a great team Paul and Caroline make, not just as husband and wife, but as managing partners of Logical Developments, and as parents - their pride in sons Christopher and Aaron was obvious. Formalities closed with their pastor leading a prayer of thanks, and a call for blessing over the next 20 years. Congratulations Paul and Caroline.
New Year Greetings (7th Jan 09)
Logical Developments would like to wish everyone a happy and successful 2009. In view of current global financial trends, this year these wishes are even more heartfelt than ever. After enjoying a family-orientated festive season we are all back with recharged batteries ready to take on another year.
Association with Curtin University (27th Aug 08)
An ex student himself, our head programmer Paul is enjoying his renewed association with Curtin University.
In July Paul presented a two-day “Introduction to Omnis” workshop, covering various aspects of programming in an Omnis Studio environment (this is the development tool used in most of our modular solutions). Feedback was encouraging, and opens the possibility of running another such course in the future. Sessions included file classes, data types, database design, messaging, windows, programming structures, lists, tasks, menus, reports, super/sub classes.
The final year Software Engineering Project course at Curtin run a series of guest presentations on various subjects, providing students the opportunity of getting a broader idea of the ‘real’ world beyond university. In August Paul presented “software engineering from a small business perspective”. With experience as both employee and manager/owner of his own business, Paul could give comparative perspectives on the pitfalls and benefits of both options. Topics included cash flow, working hours, workplace environments. Another interesting subject was ‘Work from home versus live at work’. He spoke on a manager’s extra admin responsibilities such as documentation, employing and training others, dealing directly with customers. He explained the importance of understanding what motivates you in deciding which pathway is best for you. As for Paul, Logical Developments is his challenge and his dream. We would like to acknowledge and thank Tele Tan, Associate Professor of Computing, Curtin University.
Autumn Update / Curtin University (19th May 08)
2008 is proving to be even busier than ever. As usual, our project board has been displaying numerous projects at any given time, and we have some exciting work coming up. In view of all of these projects our employment status is: Situations Vacant - 2 developers. Details on our Employment page.
Liaison with Curtin University
An ex Curtin University student himself, our head programmer Paul has been involved with several planning meetings with Curtin, resulting in a proposed workshop this coming July. Paul will be presenting a two day hands-on workshop entitled Introduction to Omnis. Details on our Employment page.
International acclaim for Logical Developments (27th Feb 08)
Logical Developments is one of many software companies throughout the world who develop their projects on an engine called Omnis, and recently Omnis invited us to be featured on their website. When considering the size and international status of Omnis, this is quite a 'feather in our cap'. (Their mother company, Raining Data, serve more than a half-million active users representing over 20,000 unique customer sites worldwide). You can check out the write-up click here
Raining Data Germany will also feature our case study at the March CeBit in Hannover. (CeBIT is the largest and most comprehensive IT and computer trade fair in the world with over 5,000 exhibitors and around 500,000 visitors from more than 70 countries.)
It's a boy! (29th Jan 08)
Over the last few weeks, when some of our regulars asked about the arrival of Maree's first grandchild, the standard response was "watch this space". So...
Grant Jacob Matthew arrived safe and sound on Australia day. Weight 4070. Length 55cms. Beautiful soft brown hair, long artistic fingers, a good strong set of lungs, and as handsome as any baby could be - not that grandmas are ever, ever biased. Thanks to those who have sent good wishes.
Festive Season / New Year (3rd Jan 08)
Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable festive season. We all had a good break recharging our batteries ready for yet another busy year, with several projects already on the board. Best wishes for a happy and successful 2008.
MxSolutions (31st May 07)
This year is even busier than usual, with a variety of projects for clients in Perth and the eastern states.
Logical Developments has enjoyed a long-term working liaison with MxSolutions Pty Ltd. In recent months we have assisted them with their MxSolutions upgrade. MxSolutions is a practice management system which has been popular with medical specialists for nearly twenty years, and in recent years, hospitals also. This upgrade includes the MxCalendar written by Logical Developments. We are now busy installing upgrades with MxSolutions' director, Robyn Collins. The MxCalendar features: capability to interlink with other MxSolutions components, a colour coded appointment system with user defined time slots, user defined appointment categories and appointment types with default time durations. Other features include: day list reporting, the ability to define resources, import public holidays, and import appointments from other programs such as Outlook, Lotus, and Now up to Date. Magazine promotion (30th May 07)
One of our customers, Pacific Transport, is profiled in this month's edition of the T&M magazine. Among other topics, the article covered how their business has benefited by using our software in managing operations and gauging key performances. They cited the software's flexibility and report generation as key elements to their satisfaction. The article also quoted 'Because of the ability of this software, and the ability of our staff in the use of this package, client requirements can be met and handled with minimum fuss and time' The director added: 'This sort of value-adding to service is what the business is really about, and the ability to take a challenge and solve a problem when other companies might put it in the too-hard-basket'.

Christmas / New Year. (2nd Jan 07)
This season, we had our company Christmas dinner at The Wild Rose in Pioneer Village. We wined and dined on superb food in a lovely relaxed atmosphere out on the decking under the trees. Paul delivered the end-of-year report which reminded us of how busy we have been, and outlined the projects for the new year.We all had a lovely break and hope you did too. Best wishes for 2007.
Festive Season (21st Dec 06)
Logical Developments wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We hope to see you back safe and sound next year.We are closed now for the festive season and re-open on Tuesday 2nd January. In the meantime it's best to direct any queries to sales@logicaldevlopments.com.au and someone will respond as soon as possible on our return.
Check out our 'Christmas version' logo. Christopher is a student doing some part-time work here during the summer holidays, and with graphic design being his main interest, the logo was his first project. Welcome on to the team Christopher.
New programmer - David Brayn (10th Oct 06)
David first joined us nearly four months ago on a part-time basis. He settled in quickly and soon became a popular team member, so we were pleased when he decided to accept a full-time position. Welcome aboard David.New Product (10th Oct 06)
We have just added Roster to our list of products. This roster system is now being used by a client with several linked branches throughout the Perth metro area. As with most of our software, it can be adapted to suit a wide range of business types. Two main benefits are:
- Head office being able to create rosters for every branch.
- Web-based access which enables each staff member access to:
- their individual roster,
- site rosters of relevant branches,
- data entry of Timekeeper,
- personal password maintenance.
More information can be found on the Products page in the Administration section.
We have moved. (14th Jun 06)
But our address remains the same - its just a new premises on the same block.
For months we watched the building grow, brick by brick, and finally came the day when we could transfer across. The moving went quite smoothly, and it didn't take long for us all to get settled in. Initially, after months of noisy tradesmen, we were conscious of how quiet it was. The new layout is quite different - its design is more open and incorporates a lot of natural lighting. Visitors have all commented on how nice it is.
Staff News (15th Nov 05)
Welcome to Jason Lim who started with us in June. He has now passed his trial period, and is settling in to our programming team well. You can find his profile on the About Us page.CeBIT Expo - Sydney (8th Jul 05)
CeBIT is one of the largest IT exhibitions in Australia, involving more than 20 nations. This May, the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre (in Darling Harbour) was host to an estimated 28,000 visitors. (details www.cebit.com.au/)
Thanks to those who called in to chat with Paul, our head developer, who was on the Omnis stand ? one of the expo?s 600 exhibitions. The Logical Developments modular system is Omnis based, and it was exciting to be invited to participate.
(Right) There was a regular stream of interested visitors.
Paul was kept busy responding to questions about both Omnis and Logical Developments ? our company, employment opportunities, and our products - with particular interest in Video and ShopFront point-of-sale systems. Paul also enjoyed visits from other developers he had previously met at last year's Oz-Omnis conference. (see below - news item Oz-Omnis conference Aug 04)

Staff news (15th Feb 05)
Welcome aboard Wilson who will take David?s place. Unfortunately for us, David is off to do his Masters degree. He has decided that study, and a new baby and work might amount to overload, so now he just does the odd job here and there as his time permits.
Karen has now joined the ?front line? two days a week. She and Maree now time share reception and sales.
End of year (24th Dec 04)
This Xmas followed our usual festive routine: staff being shouted out for lunch, Kris Kringle prezzies: and of course, the annual report. As in previous years, the report indicated that Logical Developments is going from strength to strength. Our reputation for integrity, value and service has ensured that once again, throughout the whole year, there was always plenty of work on the board, with further projects in the wings. 2005 looks like being busier than ever.
Oz-Omnis national conference (20th Aug 04)
Paul and Wade returned looking tired but feeling excited about the success of the 4 day conference held in Sydney. This is an annual event open to developers such as ourselves who use an Omnis platform for their software. Its a good opportunity to learn new skills and share ideas. On this occasion our head programmer Paul was invited to do a presentation. Judging from feedback, his delivery ?Omnis on Linux? was well received.
